Street Legal Tech Check: What You Need Before Hitting the Road

Before we roll out for Buckeye Skip’s, every driver needs to make sure their car is truly street legal. This isn’t just about keeping the event running smoothly. It’s about keeping you safe and keeping the law off your back. Below is the full Street Legal Tech Checklist that all participants must meet before driving on public roads between stops.

Street Legal Tech Checklist

1. Valid non‑restricted driver’s license Every driver must hold a current, unrestricted license. No exceptions.

2. Proof of valid insurance and registration Bring it with you. If you get pulled over, you’ll need it.

3. License plate up to date and mounted Tags must be current, and the plate must be properly attached to the vehicle.

4. Working lights This includes:

  • Headlights

  • Taillights

  • Turn signals

  • Brake lights

***All trailers must also have fully functioning lights.

5. Good tires and brakes Your vehicle must be safe to operate on public roads. Worn tires or questionable brakes won’t cut it.

6. Seat belts and seats mounted to the floor or frame Everything must be securely installed. No loose seats and no missing belts.

7. Working horn It’s a basic safety requirement and part of being road‑ready.

8. Proper exhaust Your vehicle must have mufflers or turbos. No open headers on the street.

A Quick Reminder

If law enforcement pulls you over, you are responsible for passing their inspection. Buckeye Skip’s will not pay your tickets.

A Helpful Safety Addition

We would like to see a fire extinguisher in each vehicle. It is not mandatory, but it might help someone. P.S. If you have a fire extinguisher, please know how to work it. If you have any questions, we would be glad to answer them.

Taking a few minutes to double‑check your setup now saves headaches later and keeps the event safe and enjoyable for everyone.
